I've been wondering lately, why do we... better yet, why do I put limitations on my love for God? -- Think about it... I know that so often I limit how much I give of myself to God. Now, don't get me wrong, I love God. I'm not questioning that; what I'm questioning is how much of my heart do I give to Him? How much do you give Him?
Do you just say Lord, you have all my heart? or do you really give it all to Him daily?
Picture this: You have a job, and lets imagine that you earn $100.00 a day. Your paycheck goes directly into your bank account. Now suppose that Jesus walks up to you and asks, "will you give me everything you have?" -- You love Jesus, so you give Him your money saying, "of course! You can have everything I have." -- The next day comes, and your paycheck of $100.00 goes into the bank, and again Jesus comes up to you and asks, "will you give me everything?" -- Again, you love Jesus, so you give Him all of your money. This continues for a while, and every day Jesus walks up to you and asks, "will you give me everything you have?" and every day you give Him your money. -- Now, imagine that you just got your paycheck, but Jesus doesn't come walking up to you today. You think to yourself, awesome! I've got some money to spend now. I can go get some of the things I've wanted to get for a while. So, you go out and you spend your paycheck that week. You make a bunch of withdrawals, and it feels good to get the things that you want. The next day comes around and again Jesus doesn't come walking up, so you think about it and decide to invest your $100.00 in something really big. The next days comes around and your paycheck goes into your bank account and now you have $200.00 and you're really excited because you've planned on spending your money on. Then you see Jesus walking up to you, and he reaches out His hand and asks, "will you give me everything you have?" and all of a sudden you hesitate. You've already decided that you wanted to get something with your money. You stutter, and say, "well... i was going to spend my money on this or that." You look at Jesus and ask, "is that okay?" -- Jesus just looks at you with His loving eyes, and says "if you'd rather do that, then its okay. It is yours." -- You smile and go off and buy your stuff. The next day comes, and Jesus walks up again, and reaches out His hand asking, "will you give me everything you have?" -- You frown, and say to Jesus "but you said that it was okay, it was mine and I could use it." Jesus still has His hand reaching out, and He says, "but you told me that I could have everything." He furrows His brow, His eyes still full of love, and asks, "did you not mean that when I asked you? do you not want me to have everything anymore?"
Ugh! Heart check. That is what we do every day when we choose to put our hearts into other things. You've probably already picked up on my symbolism, but our heart is like a bank account, we are always depositing and withdrawing from it. The question is, where are your withdrawals going? Are you giving all your money to Jesus every day? or are you spending your heart on other things?
Where is your heart? What are the limitations you put on it? What is stopping you from giving all your heart to Jesus?
Jesus doesn't demand that we give Him all our heart. He asks us for it. He wants us to want to give it to Him.
